Swillington Parish Councillors

The disclosure of pecuniary interests forms that each serving councillor must complete can be found under each councillor profile. Read the DPI Regulations here. You can also see the forms on the Leeds City Council site here.

The Code off Conduct applies to all Swillington Parish Councillors. Our Councillors must follow these principles: selflessness, honesty, objectivity, accountability, openness and leadership. We have adopted The Leeds City Council Model.

The number of councillors a parish council may have is determined by the number of citizens there are on the electoral register.

In Swillington's case the number of parish councillors is nine and they are:

I have lived in Swillington since 1986 and I have always been involved in our community. I think it is important to care about the community in which you live. I joined the parish council in July 2011 I enjoy being a councillor and hopefully making a difference. I became the Chair of the parish council in 2012.

One of my achievements whilst Chair has been the refurbishment of the Children’s Playground and recently with money obtained from the Tesco’s bag funding scheme we have embarked upon installing more play equipment. To help with the older residents the parish council in partnership with Rural Action Yorkshire we started an over 55’s club which we have called “Elderberries”. We have weekly interesting meetings with refreshments in our recently refurbished village hall.

I am also a member of Swillington in Bloom and a trustee of Swillington Educational Charity. I retired in 2002 from a career as a dental hygienist. I have two children, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

I have lived in the Swillington Parish for over 30 years and attended Swillington Primary School and Garforth Community College. I have been a parish councillor for over 11 years in which time I have seen many positive changes in our community as a result of the councils activities. I look forward to continuing our work, helping keep Swillington a safe and friendly a place where people are proud to live.

My name is Judith Woodhead I have lived in Swillington for 52 years. I have 2 children and 4 grandchildren, they all went to Swillington School, I am now a Governor at the school which I love. I became a Parish Councillor because I wanted to try and give back what Swillington has given me. I am also a member of the village hall committee which I have been since it was opened.

I am also a trustee of the Old School House. This year I am involved with Elderberries at Swillington a group that meet every Monday and Fridays. This is a group that has speakers, and activities, for people over the age of 55. Swillington is a very good place to live.

I am 54 years old. My wife and I moved to Swillington in 1995 after buying a business and home on Church Lane. I joined Swillington Parish Council in 1996 having been interested in local news and politics. I enjoy being close to the countryside and I am often out with my two spaniels. Swillington is a good mix of walkways being close to St Aidens, Lemonroyds and Templesham.

In my spare time I watch all sorts of motorsport and read local newspapers. I have an interest in classic cars and to go to local shows when I can.

I have served on Swillington Parish Council for over 5 years and have found it a great opportunity to learn more about our village and play a part in our community. Within the Council I have responsibility for the staffing committee and have been the liaison between the Parish and our MP campaigning on HS2.

My family farm in Swillington and our businesses are based here, I am committed to preserving and enhancing local wildlife and along with the chair I was a member of the St. Aidan's Group and work with the RSPB to conserve this community asset. I am a history graduate and have a keen interest in local history and a collection of old postcards, engravings and maps of Swillington and West Yorkshire.

I was born and brought up in Woodlesford. I left school at 16 and worked for marks and spencer before becoming an air stewardess and moving to Holland for 2 years. I moved back to the UK and got married to Phil (25 years in September!). We have 2 boys, Alex is 21 and Max is 20 they both attended Swillington scouts. We have lived in Swillington for 14 years, the last 2 in the old school on church lane . It has been an absolute labour of love and we have restored the old school house to as close to the original building as was possible. Converting the school building is the next step in our renovation story. I work for first direct bank and my hobbies are baking, tending our allotment and walking our beloved dog Borris, who most of the village know as he's always sat by the gate watching the world go by.

I’m a 66 year old retired police officer and have lived in the village for 9 years, I have a grown up family and 2 grandchildren. Since joining Swillington Parish Council I have become involved in various aspects of road safety in the area including nuisance parking and, more recently, the setting up of a speed indicating device. I am often seen out walking my 2 dogs around the village so I have a good insight into its residents and events.

I have lived in Swillington just about my whole life and moved in to the village with my parents and brothers in 1962. Although this is the first role that I have undertaken to directly help the local Community, which I care a great deal about, I have been involved in several other voluntary roles including that of a School Governor, Cub Leader and Scout Leader. I do hope that my time as a Parish Councillor will prove productive, helpful and make a difference to others.

I have spent the greater part of my Career serving the public in various ways as a Servant of the Crown. Having retired from this role and finding that I had too much time on my hands I returned to full time employment and was given the opportunity to work within the Rail Industry again serving the Public. It is my intention whilst serving as a Parish Councillor to help others where I can and to support my fellow Councillors.
